Essential oils: Geranium

I love essential oils!  At the risk of sounding like a commercial,  they’ve made such a difference in our lives.  We’ve used Young Living oils for almost 6 years now.  We love the fact that they are pure, clinical grade oils that are batch tested every time.

What sold us originally on the oils was that my husband used to take 800mg Ibuprofen every morning just to be functioning.  (Mostly arthritis from many broken bones, including a motorcycle wreck years ago that left him with very little likelyhood of living a normal life caused this pain.)  After using panaway and lemongrass oils for just a couple of massage sessions, he began to forget to take the pain killers!

Here’s the first article on uses of different oils:

Heads up on ~Pelargonium graveolens~

~Historically, the essential oil of geranium has been used for centuries to regenerate and heal skin conditions.

~It has a recommended dilution ratio of 50-50 which means you should dilute it with an equal amount of quality carrier oil, though I often use it straight (neat) with no problems.  I prefer to use coconut oil, evoo or Young Living’s V-6 oil to dilute any essential oil and for massage as well.

It’s fragrance has been know to help release negative memories and ease nervous tension.  According to several studies, geranium balances the emotions, lifts the spirit, and fosters peace, well-being and hope.

Geranium, according to Essential Oils Desk Reference, Essential Science Publishing is…

GRAS- generally regarded as safe          FA- food additive

DS- dietary supplement                              FL- flavoring agent

Geranium’s unique medical properties are:  “Antispasmodic, antioxidant, antitumoral, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic (stops bleeding), antibacterial, antifungal, improves blood flow, liver and pancreas stimulant, dilates bile ducts for liver detoxification.  Helps cleanse oily skin; revitalizes skin cells.”

It’s uses include:  Hepatitis/ fatty liver (Jean Valnet, M.D.), Skin conditions (dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, acne, vitiligo), fungal infections (ringworm), viral infections (Herpes, shingles), hormone imbalances, circulatory problems (improves blood flow), menstrual problems/PMS.
