Raw Food and Hormones

Hormones.  Touchy subject.

What causes hormonal imbalances in the first place??

Many factors can cause a hormonal imbalance beyond the basic age factor.  Everything from environmental toxins to stress!  I ran across this well put together article about the causes of hormone imbalance. (You should know that I don’t advocate pills, but rather food as medicine, though…)

What are the symptoms of hormonal imbalance?

Some of the most common symptoms seem to be hot flashes, night sweats, hormonal migraines, PMS, ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, fibrocystic breasts, weight gain, foggy thinking, and heavy bleeding.

Why should I make a changes in my diet & what will happen if I just keep on ignoring it?

Some of the risk factors associated with hormonal imbalance are emotional. Untreated hormonal imbalance can lead to intense anxiety, depression, and lethargy. The irritability, inability to concentrate, and mood swings may also take a significant emotional toll on both the patients and those around them.

There are also numerous physical risks associated with hormonal imbalance, the severity depending on which hormones are not at ideal levels and how long the imbalance is sustained. The dangers of insufficient insulin, for example, are well-documented in studies of diabetic patients. If insulin levels are not controlled, the blood sugar imbalance can lead to serious complications, including nerve damage, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and blindness.  patientsmedical.com

How can eating a high raw diet help?

I, personally, had many symptoms of hormonal imbalance prior to beginning my high raw foods journey.  In the past 2 years I have experienced dramatic changes in these symptoms (and elimination of many of them!) and am on the road to complete deliverance from them…

Evidently I’m not the only one...

Here’s another testimony…

What should you do to increase your hormone balance?

While there are an abundance of fast cures and so-called miracle drugs on the market that address the symptoms of hormonal imbalance, the answer is about getting back to basics.

  • Get off stimulants and stop the fight or flight syndrome.  Hormones are affected by how much your adrenals have been taxed over the  course of your life.  Coffee and other caffeine sources just tear up your adrenal system!  (Licorice tea is reported to help build adrenals.)
  • Detoxing your liver is important for proper hormone function, because your liver breaks down excess estrogen that would otherwise cause fluctuations.
  • The superfood Maca is reported to balance hormones.
  • Most of all, base your diet on fresh, uncooked fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds with plenty of green leafys.

Wow!  Did you know:

  • Men experience hormone issues as well. Symptoms of hormone imbalance in men include bone loss, erectile dysfunction, memory loss, apathy, depression, grumpiness, breast enlargement, weight gain, prostate enlargement and andropause (basically the opposite of puberty).
  • Pesticides actually disrupt hormones!
