Suzie decides to begin a journey & thus, heads aimlessly out into the highways and byways of life…

She has no plan. No goal or destination. No supplies. No vehicle.

What is her likely end result??

This scenario seems ludicrous doesn’t it??

Many of us start our health journeys much this way. L.O.S.T.

L ogistically
O utrageously
S ide
T racked

Some of us didn’t know we’re even on a journey, we just put one foot in front of the other aimlessly. Some of us were never taught the importance of getting directions and being prepared. Yet, some of us knew we needed to be prepared… knew how to find the way, but were too hard-headed to take time to plan it out.

Refusing to ask for directions is not just a guy thing!

So, before the trip of life (and many times throughout the world tour) we need to check on a few things…

1) Know the rules of the road. Drivers Ed. Usually happens early on in life, and doesn’t need to be reviewed very often. ~This is basic knowledge of a healthy life. If you don’t eat you’ll pass out. Don’t use it you lose it. Be mean you won’t have friends.
2) Get a license, vehicle and insurance. And pay the renewals, car payments and insurance on a monthly or yearly basis. ~Upkeep. Diet, exercise, hydration.
3) Maintain your vehicle. It won’t run without decent fuel, regular oil changes and engine servicing. ~Good food, nutritional products, occasional fasting, cleansing, as well as periodic focusing on building your relationships, both personal and spiritual.
4) Plan your route. Happens every time you have a new destination. Adjusts as you add new things to your travel list. ~Take a step back regularly and figure out where you should adjust your route. Change some things up in your diet, exercise, time management, relationships, or stress management.
5) Check the weather. Foul weather doesn’t mean you can’t go, it just takes a little extra preparation! In the summer you should keep extra water with you, just in case… ~Become aware of the seasons in your life when you need extra nutritional products or adjustments to your routine (Vit C in the winter, Hydration in the summer, etc) Know that during seasons of extreme stress you may need extra fun & recreation, possibly some extra focus on stress management, and just maybe a little more reliance on your support network.
6) Understand you’ll need periodic breaks to stretch and use facilities. ~There will be the occasional time you just need to get away. It happens to everyone on their journey. Be kind to yourself and don’t ignore the signs that tell you where the rest areas are…
7) Plan fun activities to keep your mind busy and keep you from falling asleep while driving. ~Include play into your life, whatever that means to you. Outdoor activities such as swimming, hula-hooping, hiking as well as indoor activities like reading and learning new things.
Pack some snacks to keep your energy up. =D

And last but not least… Mapquest is not always correct: No matter how thorough your plan, at times you may come to realize that the road you’re on is not taking you where you want to go. Keep your eyes open for the right person to ask directions from…
